Why take a total cholesterol test?

Having elevated cholesterol can increase the risk of developing vascular disease which may lead to serious health conditions such as atherosclerosis (clotted arteries), a blood clot, angina (arm or chest pain during physical activity), heart attack or stroke.

Why is it so important that we know our cholesterol levels? Abnormal cholesterol is one of the ‘risk factors’ for cardiovascular disease (CVD) – a term that medics use to encompass all sorts of damage to the arteries, heart and brain, such as stroke, angina, and heart attacks. CVD is treatable! And not just through medication but also through changes to diet and lifestyle.
