This year marks our third year participating in Blood Pressure UK’s award-winning blood pressure awareness campaign, Know Your Numbers! Week. To make an even bigger impact, we’re concentrating on one location so that we can spend less time travelling and more time checking people’s blood pressure. That’s where Know Your Numbers! Manchester comes in!
As an area with high levels of deprivation, Manchester sees individuals three times more likely to die prematurely from cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared to the least deprived areas of England. As high blood pressure is a key risk factor of CVD, we saw Manchester as a crucial location to visit that would truly benefit from this awareness campaign.
Free Blood Pressure Checks at Well Pharmacy
July and August
The first element of our campaign is in partnership with Well Pharmacy. Throughout July and August, locals in Manchester can get free blood pressure checks at one of the 30 participating Well Pharmacy locations across the city. To support the Well Pharmacy staff, we’ll provide each pharmacy with a Blood Pressure Toolkit, including everything they need to provide free blood pressure checks, such as one of our blood pressure monitors, marketing materials and educational information. We’ll also be running our PR campaign, featuring local press and radio, to help raise awareness and encourage people to visit their local Well.
The Wellbeing Pod: Bringing Free Blood Pressure Checks to You
September 6th-8th
The green bus is back for the second element of Know Your Numbers! Manchester. This time it’s new and with its own name, the ‘Wellbeing Pod’. You will find it in the city centre, on market street, raising awareness of the dangers of high blood pressure and providing free blood pressure checks to anyone who missed out on the Well Pharmacy initiative. By focussing on Manchester and extending the length of the campaign we hope that we, with the help of our partnerships, can make a major impact on reducing the number of premature deaths caused by CVD and high blood pressure.
