How does the Kinetik Wellbeing blood glucose monitor work?
Kinetik Wellbeing’s Blood Glucose Monitoring System offers easy and fast measurement of blood glucose from fresh capillary whole blood samples drawn from the fingertip, palm, forearm, upper arm, calf or thigh. When blood is added to a test strip, an electrical current is generated by the reaction of glucose with the reagent of the strip.
The strength of the current produced by the reaction depends on the amount of glucose in the blood sample and this is shown on the monitor.
If the blood glucose is lower than 20 mg/dL a ‘Lo’ warning will represent low blood glucose levels and you should consult a healthcare professional and if the level is higher than 600 mg/dL a ‘Hi’ warning with represent high blood glucose levels and you should seek immediate medical assistance.
How do you measure your blood glucose levels?
The first step is to gain a blood sample through the lancing device and then apply this sample to a test strip as follows:
- Wash your hands thoroughly
- Insert a new unused glucose test strip into the blood glucose device
- Obtain a blood sample using the lancing device
- Apply the blood sample to the glucose test strip
- The test result will appear on the monitor after counting down from 5 to The blood glucose device and lancing device are for individual use only and the test strips and lancets are for single use only. All of these accessories are available for purchase individually.

What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes?
Diabetes is a condition that affects over 5 million people in the UK and 415 million adults worldwide, and it is caused by abnormally high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood. Normally insulin produced by the pancreas lowers these glucose levels however people with Type 1 Diabetes are unable to produce insulin and people with Type 2 Diabetes don’t respond to insulin as they should. When the proper precautions aren’t taken, there is an increased risk of diabetes complications, such as heart disease and stroke.
Although living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes can be tough, with the right medical help, diet and exercise your life should carry on. Read more about living with diabetes.
